Amazon: Social Selling

BACKGROUND

With the growing demand for pre-loved items and the potential of social shopping as a way to engage customers, Amazon wanted to explore Social Selling as well as sales of pre-owned items. I developed this Personal/Social Sales Concept, a unique platform that provides a fresh shopping experience, seamlessly integrated with Amazon while maintaining its distinct identity. The platform is designed to surface a wide variety of pre-loved items, anticipate customer interests, and encourage social interaction among users.

Amazon Personal/Social Sales offers a curated selection of pre-loved items from various categories. The platform features intuitive browsing tools, personalized recommendations based on browsing habits, and new ways to interact and share with other users. The platform encourages existing customers to become sellers by providing easy listing tools and promoting local pick-up options, Amazon Locker, Prime, and FBA services.

Key to the seller-side experience is providing tooling for optimizing third-party sales such as photography templates and dynamic pricing recommendation.

OPPORTUNITY

The key challenges addressed by the concept:

  • Creating a unique and engaging shopping experience for pre-loved items.

  • Effectively surfacing relevant items based on customer preferences and browsing habits.

  • Encouraging user-generated content and social shopping.

  • Inspiring customers to become sellers and ensuring high-quality listings.

DECISIONS INFORMED BY DATA

I used data-driven insights and A/B testing to inform the development of the concept:

  • Analyzing customer browsing habits and preferences to optimize personalization algorithms.

  • Testing various user interface designs to enhance browsing and discovery experience.

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of social shopping features through A/B tests.

  • Monitoring seller conversion rates and listing quality to refine listing tools and guidelines.
